Introduction

With direct heat pipe technology being all the rage now a days more and more manufacturers are designing new coolers with this technology at their base. OCZ’s second attempt at such a cooler incorporates other features to allow for excellent cooling effectiveness and quiet operation.

OCZ is a household name for many enthusiasts, which is impressive seeing that it entered the memory market in 2000. Since then, OCZ has diversified themselves in different areas of the market such as cooling, power supplies, and even gaming notebooks. Today we are looking at one of their new CPU cooling products, the Vendetta 2.

Packaging

OCZ Packages the Vendetta 2 in a very secure and sturdy foam. The heat sink itself has its own area in the packaging and receives the most protection from bumps and other such mechanical damages. The fan is not attached to the heat sink and can be seen though the window in the front of the packaging.

OCZ also protects the base of the heat sink with a plastic peel off square. This does a good job of keeping the base free from gouges and scratch that can compromise cooling effectiveness.

Specifications

OCZ lists the following specs for the Vendetta 2 CPU cooler:
  • For Sockets AMD 754/755/939/AM2, Intel LGA775
  • 3 Pure Copper heat pipes for superior heat dissipation
  • Pure Aluminum fins for ultimate durability
  • Heatsink Dimensions: (W)120 x (D)50 x (H)159mm
  • 24 month warranty
Fan specs:
  • Fan Dimensions: (L)120 x (W) 120 x (H)25mm
  • Rated Voltage: 12V DC
  • Fan Speed: 800-1500 RPM
  • Fan Air Flow: 65-81 CFM
  • Noise Level: 20-32 dBA
  • Bearing type: Rifle
  • Connector: 4 pin with PWM
  • Includes: 120mm Fan with rubber connectors
  • Mounting Hardware for all above CPUs
  • Part Number: OCZTVEND2

It is nice to see that OCZ supports the AMD CPUs all the way back to the socket 754. Of course, on the Intel side, all LGA775 CPUs are supported.

The three copper heat pipes have what OCZ calls “HDT”, which stands for heat pipe direct touch. This means that the base of the heat sink is actually part of the heat sink. There is no copper plate, which only introduces additional thermal resistance to the system, meaning that HDT should allow for more efficient thermal dissipation from the CPU to the heat sink.

OCZ also implemented another new feature: dimpled fins. These dimples add surface area in direct path of the fan’s airflow , stiffen the fins, and add turbulence to the airflow, meaning that the air is circulated as it flows through the fins of the Vendetta 2.
